Review and specifications
2009 Ford Crown Victoria
The Crown Victoria is among the last big, full-frame American cars with a V8 and rear-wheel drive. A thrashy 4.6-liter engine provides good acceleration with substantial trailer-towing capability. It offers an absorbent but jiggly ride. An available performance-and-handling package provides improved handling and ride control. The Crown Victoria also boasts three-across seating front and rear, as well as a huge trunk. Still, the rear seat isn't as roomy as one might expect. This model was restyled for 1998 and also received a number of suspension refinements. 2003 models had a revised suspension and steering system. Handling, though, still felt ungainly

About Ford

Ford shifted away from cars this decade, focusing on SUVs and pickup trucks, with the Mustang as the lone exception. Fords are seldom leaders in their segments based on CR’s tests and surveys, but the small Maverick and full-sized F-150 trucks are notable standouts. Some other models score well enough to earn our recommendation, such as the Escape Hybrid and Bronco Sport. The Mustang Mach-E EV is Ford's highest-scoring current model. Overall, Ford's new car reliability is above average, but it varies, so used-car buyers should be mindful to check our ratings.
